Practical Applications and Innovative Interventions - Ann Vernon

REBT has a long-standing history of working with couples, as Albert Ellis began his career as a sex, marital, and family counselor in the 1940’s and pioneered the role of cognitions and behavior in working therapeutically with couples.  REBT is a particularly effective approach with couples because it works not only with the dyad, but also with the individuals in the dyad, helping them identify and change irrational beliefs that result in negative emotions and maladaptive behaviors that have a negative impact on the couple relationship. Participants in this workshop will learn about REBT applications with couples, with an emphasis on practical and innovative cognitive, emotive, and behavioral interventions to address relationship problems. The workshop will include information about myths and misconceptions that interfere with effective relationships, irrational beliefs and distorted cognitions that negatively impact couples, and how to change negative relationship patterns. This workshop promises to be very informative, and participants will benefit from the numerous strategies that they can apply to their own couple relationships as well as clients with whom they work.
